Kisses from Hanoi (Outsider Records 2000)

Wrapping up Track of the Day for this week is our faculty advisor, Dr. Phil Scepanski, a longtime WNUR contributor and former host of Fast & Loud!

The GC5 were an Ohio-based oi! punk band, though they played often enough at the Fireside Bowl that they might as well have been from Chicago. Their sputter-shouted lyrics belied an intelligent working-class leftism in many of their songs – though others like this song were more simply about the triumphs and frustrations of daily life.

Woo, GC5 were awesome, also saw them at the Fireside!! You should play more Oi! and more hardcore. And maybe some more Lawrence Arms while you’re at it.
