Dhananjay Kunte is originally from Pune (Maharashtra State, India). He started learning tabla in 1983 with Shri Pandurang Mukhade (Pune) of the Delhi Gharana. With his immense interest in tabla-solo, Dhananjay gained deep knowledge of the styles of other Gharanas including Lucknow, Ajrada and Farukhabad. He also received guidance from Pandit Bhai Gaitonde and Shri Narayan Joshi who are the disciples of Ustad Ahmedjaan Thirakwa. Dhananjay holds a Master’s Degree (Sangeet Alankar) in tabla from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal Mumbai, India. He has given many tabla-solo performances in India and abroad and accompanied renowned artists including Dr. Vikas Kashalkar, Pt. Shrikant Deshpande, Pt. Appasaheb Jalgaonkar, Pt. Nath Neralkar, Shri Patric Marks, etc. Dhananjay had his own music school in India and taught the art of tabla-solo to many students.
After two-year tenure in Paris, France, he came to USA in 2003. Dhananjay is presently working as a research scholar at Northwestern University, Evanston Hospital. He is actively involved in teaching tabla and regularly participates in music concerts.
