Phonathon, our annual fundraiser, is now complete. Thanks to everyone
who called in and contributed, and thanks also to these generous
record companies who donated premiums: Eighth Day Music, Southport
Records, Delmark Records, Groov Marketing, Evidence Music, and others.

Each year our staff votes on the best new releases and best new
reissues of 1997. Beginning Monday, April 20th, we'll spend two weeks
counting down the top ten in each category. One new release and one
reissue will be featured on the air each weekday at 11:00am. Once the
countdown is complete we'll announce the full results on this mailing
list.
-
Check the March/April issue of Option for a feature article by Peter
Margasak about the happening improvised music scene in Chicago (WNUR
Jazz is mentioned as an important component of the infrastructure
here).
-
The 2nd annual Empty Bottle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music will
take place May 8-10; scheduled performers include Evan Parker, Andrew
Cyrille, Joe McPhee, Clusone 3, Georg Graewe, and Ab Baars. See
<http://www.emptybottle.com/> for complete info. We hope to have some
of the musicians in to our studio again this year for performances and
interviews.

The duo of Tatsu Aoki (bass) and Carol Genetti (vocals) performed on
the jazz show on Monday, April 6th -- if you're in Chicago, you can
