[New releases]
@ denotes not real new
- various: CIMPosium Volume 3 (CIMP)
Tracks culled from the third batch of 15 live-in-the-studio
releases on Cadence's Creative Improvised Music Projects label by
Bobby Zankel, Joe McPhee, Roswell Rudd, Ivo Perelman, Brandon Evans,
John Gunther, Dominic Duval & Jay Rosen, Frank Lowe, Chris Kelsey,
Zusaan Kali Fasteau, Dominic Duval's String Ensemble, Jon Hazilla,
Khan Jamal, Bruce Eisenbeil, and Luther Thomas. <http://www.cadencebuilding.com/>
for info.
- Jemeel Moondoc Trio: Fire in the Valley (Eremite)
Moondoc with Laurence Cook and John Voigt live at the 1996 Fire in
the Valley festival. Contact eremite@javanet.com.
- Tom Bruno & Sabir Mateen: Getting Away With Murder (Eremite)
Tenor/drums duets recorded live on a NYC subway platform. Contact
eremite@javanet.com.
- Ensemble Sondarc: For Four Rooms (For 4 Ears)
Six bassists, six basses, recorded in resonant spaces (a church,
a staircase, etc.).
- Le Quan Ninh: Ustensiles (For 4 Ears)
Solo percussion that sometimes sounds like free improvisation and
sometimes like geological/meterological events.
- Matt Darriau Paradox Trio: Flying at a Slant (Knitting Factory)
Balkan jazz (from New York).
- Ben Allison@: Seven Arrows (Koch)
1996 disc by the Jazz Composers Collective (Boston group also
responsible for the Herbie Nichols Project disc that came out earlier
this year on Soul Note).
- Evan Parker & Ned Rothenberg: Monkey Puzzle (Leo)
Parker and Rothenberg debate through their saxophones the proper
extent and manner in which one should be influenced by John Coltrane.
Fiendishly difficult puzzle on the cover -- free CD of unused material
from the sessions to a lucky winner. Leo has a web site now
at <http://www.atlas.co.uk/leorecords/>.
- Sakis Papadimitriou & Lefteris Agouridakis: Plus and Minus (Leo)
Greek piano/drums duo. Papadimtriou specializes in prepared
piano, giving this a "mysterious", "Eastern" (and occasionally
slightly new agey) feel.
- Giancarlo Nicolai Trio: And John Tchicai (Leo)
- Ivo Perelman & Borah Bergman: Geometry (Leo)
- Ivo Perelman & Joe Morris: Strings (Leo)
Perelman on cello instead of his usual tenor sax.
- Steve Lacy: Associates (New Tone)
Previously unreleased duet tracks, 1982-1994, with Masahiko
Togashi, Steve Potts, Mal Waldron, Irene Aebi, Roswell Rudd, Bobby
Few, Derek Bailey, George Lewis, Uli Gumpert, and Muhammad Ali (the
drummer, stupid). <http://www.inrete.it/robidroli/home.html>
for info on this and other New Tone releases, including the Ictus
reissues below.
- Gil Evans@: The Honey Man (New Tone)
Live 1986. Three trumpet players: one's first name is Miles, and
another's last name is Davis, and there's a Bill Evans on here too
(not the pianist).
- Bennink/Borstlap/Glerum: 3 (VIA)
Piano trio (live but nicely recorded, great to hear Bennink coming
through so clearly) do four standards & two improvised pieces.

for info.
[New reissues]
@ denotes not real new

proprietor Andrea Centazzo.
- Bradfield/Centazzo/Chadbourne/Cora/Kondo/Zorn@: Environment for Sextet (New Tone)
