- Next week, May 12-16, the jazz show will feature an interview
every day at 11:00am with musicians appearing at the Empty Bottle
Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music. The exact schedule of
interviews hasn't been finalized, but may possibly include Steve
Beresford, Veryan Weston, Irene Schweizer, and Frank Gratkowski.
- Also, don't forget to tune in to our live music show Airplay on
Saturday May 10th between 2:00 and 5:00 to hear a live performance by
Radu Malfatti (trombone) and Werner Dafeldecker (bass), members of the
Austrian quartet Polwechsel. In addition to the Polwechsel appearance
at the Empty Bottle on the 14th, Malfatti and Dafeldecker perform this
Friday night at the RX Gallery and Saturday night at the Renaissance
Society.
- South African reed/flute player Zim Ngqawana and his group Ingoma
will be in residency at Northwestern May 7th through the 18th.
They'll be visiting and performing on WNUR's Continental Drift program
on Friday, May 16th at 1:00 pm. In addition to a number of their own
performances around Chicago and in Madison and Milwaukee, Zim will
join with legendary percussionist Max Roach to perform twice
(Thursday, 5/15, Chicago Cultural Center, Sister-City signing and
Saturday, 5/17 at Northwestern's Pick-Staiger Concert Hall as part of
the "NU Jazz Festival").
- New York saxophonist Michael Attias is currently in town for
several concerts as a guest with Fred Lonberg-Holm's trio In Zenith,
including a show May 7th at the Empty Bottle. A CD release by the
