NEW MUSIC COMMENTS
- Judging from the new live CD, Ernst Reijseger has replaced Hank
Roberts as the cellist in Arcado String Trio. Roberts appeared on
their previous releases on JMT.
- Ghost in the Machine are a Danish free improv trio, joined on
their new Leo release by two guests: English sax legend Evan Parker
and "amplified object player" Martin Klapper.
- New artist of the week is Feet Music, a reeds-reeds-drums trio
(respectively: leader Allen Livermore, Noel Sherr, and Mike Szekely)
out of Connecticut. Their style is a mix of post-Ornette freebop and
a diverse array of compositional approaches.
- President's Breakfast play a 100% improvised stew of jazz, funk,
and dub. The group includes pianist Dred Scott, known for his work
with Anthony Braxton. Don Byron guests on clarinet.
- Saxemble is a sort of supergroup of six saxes and drums,
including James Carter and Frank Lowe, performing material ranging
from Albert Ayler to Eddie Harris to originals. Compare and contrast
to the latest World Sax 4tet plus drums album which has been near the
top of our charts for some weeks now.
