- The long-promised new album by one of Chicago's finest groups,
the NRG Ensemble is finally out! The album is called This Is My
House and it's on Delmark Records, a label that's had a great
track record lately of releasing albums by Chicago-based jazz artists
like Jodie Christian, the Ritual Trio, Malachi Thompson, and Roscoe
Mitchell. The record release party will be at the Bop Shop this
Friday.
- The Lee Konitz CD with Don Friedman and Attila Zoller is fine
chamber jazz in the tradition of Jimmy Giuffre.
- Ron Anderson is the guitarist for the Bay Area band the
Molecules. This disc will be added to new rock, but will probably get
crossover airplay on both our jazz and rock formats.
- The Allen Farnham CD is part of a regular series of piano albums
recorded live at Maybeck Recital Hall and released on Concord.
Flavian Wallis often features these discs on his show, Fridays
9:30-12:30.
- The Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet is an all-female
band consisting of 4 saxophonists and 1 drummer. Billy Tipton was a
big band musician who disguised herself as a man for nearly 50 years
in order to survive in a male dominated era.
