Thelonious Sphere Monk (1917 - 1982)

Pianist, Composer

"Monk's dynamic, singular piano style, and the seemingly simple means of his tunes obscure the fact that this was a 20th century composter of the first water." - Lee Jeske

The image archives at ftp.njit.edu have a picture of Monk.
I have found and set up some tiny audio clips of some Monk stuff:
Here are a few of Monk's albums. Any submissions, or corrections, to the following discography are needed, and will be welcomed.

Thelonious Monk:

Underground - Columbia CK-40785 - 1967-1968
"Underground was the last album to feature Monk's classic quartet, with the great Charlie Rouse. Underground is a heartening burst of creativity froma true musical genius."
Monk's Dream - Columbia CK-40786 - 1963
"This, the pianist's first album for Columbia, was released in early 1963 with considerable fanfare and admiring responses from the critics - one of whom, Martin Williams, called Monk 'the first great jazz composer after Duke Ellington.'"

Other sessions:

John Coltrane
