If you’ve ever heard of German producer/sound engineer Harry Thumann—unless you know today’s track, in which case you’re ahead of the game—it’s probably in the context of his biggest hit, 1979′s “Underwater,” which saw some minor chart performance in the US and the UK. Today’s Track of the Day, however, comes from his subsequent second LP, Andromeda, released in 1983. Thumann was an early adopter of MIDI in his compositions and arrangements, and Wikipedia’s got a breakdown of his studio equipment that might appeal to the interested synth-geek.

Andromeda fetches a decent price on the secondhand market, owing both to its rarity and its cult fanbase—and although the album was allegedly reissued in 2010 by original label Hansa International, that too seems to have lapsed out of print.
