Forerunners of the Neue Deutsche Welle/German New Wave, D.A.F. (short for Deutsche-Amerikanische Freundschaft, which means “German American Friendship”) formed in Düsseldorf, Germany—also home to early electronic superstars Kraftwerk—in 1978. Centered on the duo of Gabi Delgado-López and Robert Görl, D.A.F. was known for its sinister brand of minimal synthpop, performed on analog synthesizer and 16-step sequencer. “Verlieb Dich In Mich” comes from 1982’s Für Immer (produced by Conny Plank), which marked the end of the group’s early recordings. Aside from a short reunion in 1985 to record their only English-language release, 1st Step to Heaven, the group didn’t record together until 2003’s Fünfzehn Neue DAF Lieder.
And make sure to listen to The Rock Show at 5:00 PM today for an hour-long set of NDW music put together by Dan. No worries if you don’t catch it today—we’ll be putting it up on Mixcloud as well.
