WNUR will be starting off the year with a free concert on the southern tip of the Northwestern University Evanston campus’ Lakefill. The show is from 6-10 pm and will feature two student DJs, Jamez Bluntz and 90s Nick, as well as Good Willsmith, a band made up of three Northwestern alums. Join us for a great night out on the lake with some great music!

Remember to donate to Phoneathon! The drive ends Friday at noon! We’re making good progress towards our goal of $45,000, but we can’t afford to slow down now—and we can’t make it without your help. WNUR depends on the contributions of its listeners to stay on the air, and there’s still time to donate, so please give whatever you can to help keep us free of the corporate overlords. The clock’s ticking. Your support can make the difference. For more info on Phoneathon, and a full list of premiums, click the icon in the top-left corner of the screen or go here.

Greetings, folks. A few updates on what’s going on this week and beyond at

  1. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been adding some more blog functionality to the site, and we’re continuing to do so.  Some of this stuff might cause some initial problems with the stylesheet, so please bear with us if you encounter any technical difficulties.  This leads into my second point, which is…
  2. Starting Monday, we’re gonna start running a Track of the Day feature on the site.  Those of you who follow us on Twitter will be familiar with the work we’ve done on this so far, but hopefully by moving it to the site we’ll be able to give our readers more context and depth on the things we present.  Stay tuned for that.  We’ve got a lot more stuff like that on the horizon.
  3. And finally, we’ve got the first installment of what Dan, WNUR’s rock music director, is calling “Oscillations” on Mixcloud, embedded at the top of the post.  It’s got all kinds of crazy, fun ’80s synth music on display, so check it out.  As always, if there’s something you want to see us do more of on Mixcloud, let us know.

Thanks for sticking with us, guys. We’re just getting started. Stay tuned.

This week’s the first installment of what we’re calling the Weekly Update. In it, we’re gonna tell you guys all the exciting things we’ve done with the site, and we might even tease some new things coming on the horizon.

Our deployment of the site caused some problems with the playlist system, but full playlist access from the main menu-bar should be implemented by the end of this weekend. All of the playlists from when the system was inaccessible should be available at that time. We greatly appreciate the patience of WNUR’s listeners as we’ve been sorting out these issues.

The Rock Show – 11/2/11 [with Ethan and Ezra] by WNUR-FM on Mixcloud

I’m also excited to say we’re archiving shows on the WNUR website for the first time in, well, ever. It’s a feature we’ve gotten a lot of requests for, and we’re going to be expanding it and rolling it out for more shows throughout the year. We’re using a site called Mixcloud to post the shows, which allows us to link an MP3 of a show with a time-stamped playlist. It’s a really cool site, so check it out—and make sure to tell your friends about the great stuff we’re posting.

You’re looking at the new, the first phase of our plan for eventual world domination.  The site’s still a work-in-progress, but we thought we might let people peek behind the curtain and take a look at what we’re putting together. Please excuse any lingering quirks while we take care of the last few issues that arose from deployment of the site.

Here are some of the things you can do: you can stream WNUR live, view this quarter’s programming schedule, or see our recently played tracks.  Play around with the site.  (If it breaks, let us know.)  You can also visit WNUR Sports, which is just as great as it’s always been.

This is just the start of the exciting, crazy things we’ve got planned for the new, so stay tuned!
