From Monday, June 17 until Sunday, June 23 we are holding our very first WNUR Donor Challenge!

This is a chance for you to support WNUR’s unique, community-oriented programming. In a radio landscape dominated stations whose programming comes originates from hundreds of miles away, WNUR remains stubbornly committed to Chicagoland. Our hosts and DJs live locally and broadcast in-person from our Evanston studios. This shows in our commitment to local music, both past and present, as well as the local focus of our news, talk, and sports programming.

Your gift is used to purchase equipment for our shows. WNUR is non-commercial and non-profit, receiving its operating budget from listener support. These donations go to a number of purposes, from recording equipment for our live in-studio music show Airplay to the mixing equipment that allows our Streetbeat DJs to spin live on-air. It also covers basic equipment that helps bring you award-winning shows like WNUR News and This is Hell!

To make things even better, a generous WNUR alumnus has issued a challenge. If we receive 200 donations this week, they will contribute an additional $2000 to help bring you Chicago’s best and most unique radio content.

Please make your gift online at or by calling (800) 222-5603.

This Tuesday (October 2) at 8 PM in Annie May Swift Auditorium, WNUR will be holding its Fall Kick-Off Meeting! Come out and learn how you can join one of the largest college radio stations in the country!

We’ve got all types of programming to get involved with including music, talk, engineering live bands, news, sports and more. If you’ve been to this site before, you’re probably wondering what the hell we did to it. Even if you weren’t all that attached to the old look of the site, change can be a scary thing. Some of the changes should be immediately apparent, while some you may not notice right away—so I thought it’d be worth laying-out some of the key differences between the old and new site designs.

Know that these changes are only the start of what we have planned. Over the next few weeks, we’ve got a lot of exciting things to say about the sort of content you’re going to see on the new site. More print, more audio, more video. Now’s a better time than ever to join the cult of WNUR.

Enjoy the new site!
