Election Results
Rick Morris reported 4,500 living WNUR
alumni. The e-mail list has 450.
The election ballot was sent to the e-mail
list.
Bob Rodenkirk reported that about 120
votes were cast in the election of officers. The vote was
unanimously in favor of the proposed slate. We now officially
have a board of directors.
Although the Board formally has been
elected, additional volunteers are welcome.
President's Comments
Steve reported on his desire to grant an
annual prize of $500 to an outstanding student every year, to
be called the "Bill Butler Leadership Award."
Committee Updates
Bob Rodenkirk, who runs the "Job
Bank" for the Chicago Headline Club, will be using that
information as a job base for WNUR alums. Eventually, this
will appear on the WNUR Alumni Organization website. Bob is
co-chair of the Job Development Committee.
Jonathan Lehrer, co-chair of the Internet
and New Media Committee, reported that his committee will be
using the website as a primary means of communications for the
organization. All committees should provide him with info for
the website.
Jonathan will add a page to the website on
which alums can register as members of the Alumni
Organization, if they haven't already done so. We'll need
their name, school and class.
How will we facilitate the work of
committees whose chairs aren't in Chicago?
Steve will send an e-mail to the committee
chairs asking them to submit a one-paragraph description of what
they hope to accomplish this year. This should be due before the
next meeting.
Ideas for Activities
Jonathan suggested that we focus on some
concrete activities in the near future, such as a dinner and
tour of a media facility. This should be assigned to the
appropriate committee. There was general support for planning
something.
It might be possible to have one or more of
our members prepare a brief, but interesting presentation to
help draw interest to the board meetings, including the December
meetings.
Staying in Touch
Steve reported that you can send an e-mail
to the governing board at the following address:
alumni-board@wnur.org
A listserve for the full membership of the
WNUR Alumni Organization will be developed in the coming months.
Next Meeting
Next meeting is Monday, Dec. 11 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be
held in Annie Mae Swift Hall, Room 100 on the Northwestern
University Campus. Dinner will be included.
[Schedule of meetings is
found here.]
Respectfully submitted,
Jonathan Lehrer, WNUR Alumni Webmaster
