WNUR Alumni Organization Awards First Annual Willis L. Butler Leadership Prize
2001 Leadership Award Recipient Drew Pounds
The WNUR Alumni Organization awarded its first annual Willis L. Butler
Leadership
prize May 23rd at the School of Speech Honors Convocation. The award is one
of the first initiatives by the newly-formed alumni organization to help
present
WNUR students. The award, named after Willis "Bill" Butler, WNUR's first
general manager, recognizes leadership. This award carries a cash prize of
$300
and permanent recognition on a handsome plaque to be mounted in the station.
Drew Pounds, a CAS major in Econ, and WNUR's General Manager was recognized
with
the award for his outstanding leadership this year. Drew has helped create a
consensus among the many different interests at the station by building bridges
across music formats, between individuals, and between music and non-music
programming. Additionally, he has been a driving force in WNUR's webcasting
success and converged media development. Most awards at honors convocation
come
from nominations by faculty. WNUR, of course, is different. The nominations
for the Bill Butler award originate with the student executive board. Award
recipients can be majors from any school on campus who have made substantial
contributions to the station in a way that reflects the memory of the "quiet
leadership and mentoring"of Bill Butler.
Steve and Alice Rudolph were present at the Honors Convocation representing the
Alumni Board and were introduced by Dean O'Keefe. The award was presented by
Associate Dean Citron who gave a special introduction of the award for the
first
year of its presentation.
Thanks to the WNUR Alumni Organization for supporting this wonderful effort and
method of recognizing outstanding students.
