To identify, collect and catalog
significant historical materials that serve to define
and illustrate the timeline of WNUR since its inception
in 1950. The purpose is to ensure that the narrative is
preserved in such a fashion so as to serve as a resource
for inspiration and guidance for current and future
student staff members. The collection, it is hoped, will
also act as a base for researchers seeking a deeper
understanding of the dynamic of the type of college
radio broadcasting that is characterized by WNUR.
“From Your Closet To Ours”
We are now in the process of working
to assemble a wide range of materials that represent the
history of WNUR...now more than 50 years in the making
and still going strong. The purpose of establishing and
augmenting this collection is to create and illustrate
the timeline of what arguably has become the best
college radio station in the country.

Miscellaneous
|
Now, if you were like us, you have
squirreled away, in some dark corner, on a high shelf,
or in a disused closet, various items that held great
meaning when you were a bit younger. Not that they mean
anything less right now. But, maybe you’re tired of
moving the bits of nostalgia around. Maybe you are
concerned because you no longer have a reel-to-reel
Ampex close at hand, and the tapes are getting crisp.
Maybe you can’t remember half the people in that staff
party photo (but then again, maybe you couldn’t at the
time, either). Maybe the posters are frayed or the
T-shirt that looked so sharp on the 20-year-old frame is
now more like a halter-top.
Whatever the reason, you may have
significant historical materials that will help paint
the picture of WNUR in colors that might otherwise be
dimmer. If you would like to donate those special
relics, we would certainly cherish them as we begin the
process of building the Archive. That collection will be
housed at the Northwestern Evanston campus.
However, before we do that, we need
to get a sense of what is out there. The final part of
this document is a form that can be completed and
returned to tell us what you have on hand that you would
be willing to donate to establish the WNUR Archives. The
Committee will review your submission and match it up
with others to determine what will fit into the
collection and what will not.
Please
complete the form (PDF
format - Word format)and then email it to either Don
Jacobson (Donjacob@seize-theday.com) or Wally Podrazik (podrazik@flash.net).
Or
If you wish, you can photocopy the
form and fax it back to Don at 630/960-5941.
With your help and support, we can
save a great deal of WNUR’s history.
What activities should we plan?
