Charlie Robinson
About Charlie Robinson
I am a guitarist currently living in Port Orange, Florida. My
influences have ranged from Wes Montgomery to Sonny Sharrock. As a professional
musician since the early sixties, I have played most styles of jazz. My career
has included studies with Don Cherry and Charlie Haden, recording sessions with
Elvin Jones, Allen Ginsberg, Majid Shabazz, Hakim Jami and others, performances
with Ira Sullivan, Allen Eager, Clyster Major, Spider Martin, George Morrow, and
Willie Thomas, to name a few. While on the road I appeared at the Apollo, Regal
and Howard theaters and played on recording sessions in
Nashville, Chicago, Atlanta, and New York. At present I play as a solo
performer, with my own groups and as a sideman with others.

Some of Charlie's Tunes
All of the tunes are free. They are open to any
interpretation you might want to give them. Tunes which are marked up may be
played as ballads, etc. You can also add chords if you want (I prefer polytonal
strutures when taking that approach).
The Third Lave
Blues type feeling, could also be stated rubato.
Encounter
Although the music is marked up the intention is for the rhythm
section to play double time. You will have to take this into consideration when
setting the tempo.
New View
A relaxed, "calm before the storm" approach is suggested here.
Fly By Night
Any ballad style may be used.
The Music
Here I am trying to capture the feeling of early free pieces while making a
contemporary statement.
