Jack Miller

About Jack Miller

I was born in 1958 and have lived in Eunice, LA my entire life, with the exception of years spent getting a college education. I began playing guitar at the age of 13. I received both a B.S. and an O.D. while in college.

My musical influences range from delta blues masters through classical guitarists and classical composers (especially from Romantic era and Twentieth century composers). I have played in various groups ranging from electric blues quartets, acoustic jazz trios, eight-piece rhythm and blues groups, through guitar/vocal duets and solo guitar. I currently play in a six-piece (vocal, guitar, keyboard, bass, drum, trumpet/trombone) cover group. We cover rock and roll hits from the 1960s - 1990s, with some Cajun music and country cross-over included. I have participated in several recording sessions with local musicians.

I have no formal musical education. Nevertheless, I taught myself to read and write. I compose pieces for jazz ensembles, blues combos, and solo guitar pieces and arrangements. I also write for string quartets and symphonic pieces for full orchestra.

Jack's Tunes

Alex was written for one of my children. At the time he was critically ill with spinal meningitis. The melody was an attempt to recall his tumbling about as he was learning to walk prior to the illness. (All's well, he is fully recovered.) Anyway, it is a straight-ahead swing tune, written for a jazz quartet.

It's the Little Things is an offering to the muses of inspiration which are called upon when writing music. As in most endeavors, it's the little things which usually matter most. It is written for a jazz quartet. Another arrangement (with a counter-melody) is available, for a jazz quintet.
