His big band and combo arrangements have been played by many college and high school jazz bands, and he has served as guest soloist with the University of Kentucky Jazz Band, Millikin University Jazz Band, the Lincoln Land Community College Jazz Band and others.
Dave's local television show Jazzfield, Illinois features Central Illinois jazz artists in performance, and was honored as Best Performing Arts Series by the National Association of Local Cable Operators in 1991.
Dave performs with the Chicago area big band The Alternatives, with the Central Illinois Jazz Society, and with vocalists Rachael Lee and Gaile Thomas.
His recent CD and cassette release, From Energy to Stillness (Lakefront Productions) combines jazz and world music influences. The NAPRA Trade Journal said about this release: "Hoffman has escaped the smoke-filled, hard-edged jazz world with its best goodies and melded them with pure soul. The music is free and sophisticated, yet mouth-watering in its trancendencies." On the Lakefront Productions label, it is available through the World-Wide Web at CDnow! and in record stores.
The Dave Hoffman Sextet is comprised of musicians from Chicago and Central Illinois and is featured in an upcoming issue of Jazz Player Magazine. In this issue will be a feature article on the band and a play-along CD with six original compositions.

A Soft and Embered Face, page 1 and page 2 This is a easy going kind of bossa, and a recording of it is available on my latest CD and cassette "From Energy to Stillness", on the Lakefront Productions label. It is available from CDnow if you can't find it locally.
Last Train to Tottori, page 1 and page 2 Written while on a slow train in Japan, this is a relaxed swing number. Please note that the solo changes start at the 2nd ending. I'm not sure that I like the bridge on the solos. Suggestions?
When Lips Collide, page 1, page 2, and page 3 Swing, another bebop thing. Again, about any tempo will work. This one will be appearing along with several others as part of a play-along CD for Jazz Player Magazine.
The Last Tune in the Book, page 1 and page 2 Ballad, self-explanatory. I have a big-band version of this, which is a trumpet or fluegelhorn solo. Also part of the Jazz Player Magazine playalong CD.
Cajun Cutie, page 1 and page 2 A straight-eighths tune. Very simple. I usually play it as a piano solo or trio chart. Written for my friend, Anna Catherine.
